First Indo-Pakistani War

1947–1948 South Asia Status: ended Casualties: ~7,500

Began within months of partition over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Maharaja Hari Singh acceded to India after tribal raiders entered the valley. UN-brokered ceasefire in January 1949 froze the Line of Control still in force today.
