Casualties: Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdall, Loki — and the world itself
The doom foretold. Three winters without summer; the wolf swallows the sun. Fenrir breaks loose; Jörmungandr rises from the sea; Naglfar sails. Odin falls to Fenrir, avenged by Víðarr. Thor slays the Serpent and walks nine paces before dying. Surtr's fire consumes the world. From the sea a new earth arises green; Líf and Lífþrasir survive. Völuspá 44–66.
