Binding of Fenrir

2000 BC Asgard Status: ended Casualties: Týr's right hand

The wolf grew so vast the gods feared him. Two iron chains he snapped. The dwarves forged Gleipnir — soft as silk, made of six impossible things. Fenrir suspected a trick; he would test it only if a god placed a hand in his jaws as pledge. Týr alone agreed. The wolf was bound; Týr lost his hand. Gylfaginning 34.
