Twenty-two years across two phases either side of the Sino-Japanese War. Mao's Long March (1934–35) saved the CCP; the Huaihai campaign (1948–49) destroyed the Nationalist field armies. People's Republic declared 1 Oct 1949; Chiang fled to Taiwan.
