Nightly War of Ra and Apep

3200 BC – 2030 Duat Status: active Casualties: Apep slain every night; reborn every dusk

Each night, as the sun-barque sails through the twelve hours of the underworld, the great serpent Apep rises against it. Set spears him from the prow; Bastet strikes off his head; Mehen coils about the god. Yet Apep cannot be killed forever — chaos returns at every dusk. Book of the Dead 39; Book of Overthrowing Apophis.
