1592–1598 East Asia Status: ended Casualties: ~1 million Korean civilians; tens of thousands of soldiers

Hideyoshi's bid for empire. Admiral Yi Sun-sin's turtle ships shattered the Japanese supply line; Ming armies stalemated the war on land. Hideyoshi's death in 1598 ended the campaign. Korea took a century to recover.
