The only successful slave revolution in history. Toussaint Louverture led the enslaved population to defeat French, Spanish, and British forces in turn. Napoleon's 1802 expedition lost ~50,000 to combat and yellow fever. Independence declared 1 Jan 1804 — the first Black republic.
